Contraceptive Update

About This Training
During this 90 minute audio conference, Dr. Michael Policar proivdes an update on recently available contraceptive methods, shares information about contraceptives on the horizon, reviews current dosing and timing for emergency contraception and discusses contraceptives that are used for non-contraceptive purposes.

This session focuses on:

  1. Reviewing 2 key studies that evaluated the relationship between OrthoEvra and venous complications
  2. Describing 3 management points regarding fracture risk in women using DMPA
  3. Giving 3 rules for the use of the "Quick Start" regimen in initiating hormonal contraceptives
  4. Listing 3 advantages and 3 disadvantages of etonogestrel implants (Implanon)

Intended Audience: This audioconference is primarily geared towards clinical staff, but health educators, counselors and medical assistants will also find this useful.

Trainers: Michael Policar, MD, MPH, is a widely known speaker with a particular interest in family planning, menopause, and female genital tract infections and related cancer. Dr. Policar currently serves as Medical Director, UCSF Program Support and Evaluation, Family PACT Program. He has authored a number of chapters in medical textbooks, including Contraceptive Technology. Dr. Policar is also an Associate Clinical Professor of OB/GYN and Reproductive Sciences at UCSF School of Medicine.
