*METH: Serving Clients in the Clinic Setting

This event takes place via telephone; participants will call a toll free number and listen to a presentation while following along with written materials and/or computer based PowerPoint. You will have the opportunity to ask questions during Q&A periods. Detailed instructions and handouts will be sent to the person who registers (aka The Caller). The Caller may register additional listeners on the same line for this event.

Audience: Clinical and non-clinical staff; health educators, clinic staff from school-based sites, juvenile and adult detention, primary care, community/migrant health, and tribal clinics.

Presenter: Thomas Freese, Ph.D. Co-PI/Director, Pacific Southwest Addiction Technology Transfer Center (PSATTC). Dr. Freese received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in 1995. He has served as the Project Director on a number of studies including research on methamphetamine use, HIV risk in gay/bisexual men, and smoking cessation interventions. Dr. Freese has worked in the substance abuse field since 1983. He oversees the NIDA Institutional Training Grant and has planned and implemented major CSAT and NIDA-funded conferences. He has developed and conducted trainings for various CSAT and NIDA Clinical Trials Network (CTN) multi-site projects in 15 states and directs all of the ISAP in-house trainings. He has provided clinical training and workshops for clinicians-in-training at the doctoral and masters level. Dr. Freese and other ISAP staff developed the materials that are being used nationally for training CTN Nodes on Good Research Practices.

In this training participants will:

  • Identify symptoms of meth use/abuse
  • Develop appropriate referral services for substance abuse clients
  • Evaluate clinic policies and procedures regarding the management of clients using *methamphetamines

Fees: The fee for this training is $35 per phone line; additional listeners can share the same phone line at no additional cost. For all nurses/mid-level staff, CE Units will be awarded at 1.5 Contact hours. A $10 late fee will be assessed for each registration received after November 1. Fees can be refunded if cancellation is received five working days prior to the session.

Confirmation: One week prior to the audio conference, you will receive a link to download handouts and information on how to join the call. Use the CHT registration form to signup the site coordinator who will be in charge of your site for the workshop. You will need a valid email address. Continuing Education: This session is approved for 1.5 contact hours of WSNA nursing credit. To receive credit, participant must "attend" the entire course, complete an evaluation, sign the sign-in form, and return through US Postal mail.
