About the Workshop
Overviews of Partner Notification, Syphilis, and
HPV Vaccines will be presented during this one day workshop.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
Patient History and Partner Notification:
- List three critical elements of sexual history taking.
- Describe partner notification services.
- Name four essential risk reduction activities to include during counseling sessions.
Syphilis—A Clinical Perspective:
- List three signs and symptoms for both primary
and secondary syphilis.
- Describe appropriate laboratory tests and essential components of a thorough physical examination for syphilis evaluation.
- Name the primary recommended treatment for syphilis as listed in the CDC 2006 Treatment Guidelines.
HPV Vaccines—Primary Cervical Cancer Prevention:
- Identify the populations approved by the FDA for the quadrivalent HPV vaccine.
- List three barriers to HPV vaccine acceptance.
- Discuss the rationale for giving the HPV vaccine to women who meet the age criteria but have a history of abnormal Pap smears.
Audience
This workshop is designed for nurse practitioners and other clinicians, RNs, and other reproductive health professionals who work in a clinical setting.
Trainers
Elizabeth Butera, NP, BSN, serves as a nurse practitioner for the Municipality of Anchorage's Reproductive Health Clinic. She has over fifteen years experience working in family planning and reproductive health with the Municipality.
Candy Norris, MS, NP, RN, works as a nurse practitioner for the Municipality of Anchorage Reproductive Health Clinic. She has over ten years of experience as a nurse practitioner and as a public health nurse in the state of Alaska.
Lisa Rea, RN, BSN, is the Assistant Program
Manager for the Municipality of Anchorage's Reproductive Health Clinic. She has nearly ten years of experience with the Municipality wearing various hats over the years as a public health nurse, a sexual assault nurse examiner, and as clinic manager.
Fees
If you work in a Title X (federal family planning) funded clinic your fee is $25. If you work in an organization not funded by Title X, your fee is $55. Refunds are not available for cancellations within 48 hours of the event, but substitutions will be honored or credit given for a future event.
