Contraceptive Update
Audioconference

This event takes place via telephone; participants will call a toll free number and listen to a presentation while following along with written materials. You will have the opportunity to ask questions during several Q&A periods. Detailed instructions and handouts will be sent to the person who registers (aka The Caller). The Caller is also encouraged to register additional listeners for this event.

Audience: This audioconference is primarily geared towards clinical staff, but health educators, counselors and medical assistants will also find this useful.

Presenter: Michael Policar, M.D., MPH is a widely known speaker with a particular interest in family planning, menopause, and female genital tract infections and related cancer. Dr. Policar currently serves as Medical Director, UCSF Program Support and Evaluation, Family PACT Program. He has authored a number of chapters in medical textbooks, including Contraceptive Technology. Dr. Policar is also an Associate Clinical Professor of OB/GYN and Reproductive Sciences at UCSF School of Medicine.

In this training participants will:

  • Review two key studies that evaluated the relationship between OrthoEvra and venous complications.
  • Describe three management points regarding fracture risk in women using DMPA.
  • Give three rules for the use of the "Quick Start" regimen in initiating hormonal contraceptives.
  • List three advantages and three disadvantages of etonogestrel implants (Implanon).

Fees: For Title-X funded agencies the fee is $25 per phone line. For staff at other agencies, the fee is $45 per phone line (additional listeners can share the same phone line at no additional cost). For all staff, CE Units are available for $10 per person (see below). A $10 late fee will be assessed for each registration received after the deadline. Fees can be refunded if cancellation is received five working days prior to the session.

Listeners can fill out a Continuing Education Request Form included in their downloaded materials and mail in their CE checks following the conference. You may also choose to pay for registration fees securely on line with a Visa or MasterCard. Select payment by credit card and after submitting your registration you will see a “pay now” button to process payment.

Confirmation: One week prior to the audioconference, you will receive a link to download handouts and information on how to join the call. Use the CHT registration form to signup the site coordinator who will be in charge of your site for the workshop. You will need a valid email address. Continuing Education: This session is approved for 1.8 contact hours of California BRN and 1.5 contact hours of WSNA nursing credit. To receive credit, participant must "attend" the entire course and present their license nnumber according to the instructions provided to the caller.
