In this training:
Every family planning clinic staff sees challenging clients who present complex problems in complex life situations. This interactive session will focus on practical counseling strategies that can enhance our clients’ abilities to adopt healthy behaviors.

By the end of this training participants will be able to:

Demonstrate client-centered counseling skills;
Prioritize multiple issues facing clients;
Identify how personal experiences can affect our professional experience;
Describe the motivational interviewing model of counseling;
Identify techniques for counseling clients resistant to behavior change.

Who should attend: This workshop is appropriate for experienced family planning staff.

Trainers:
Amanda Newstetter, MSW has been working in family planning and HIV Prevention for 23 years. Amanda coordinates and provides training related to sexuality, HIV, pregnancy prevention and clientcentered counseling.
Marsha Gelt, MPH is an experienced counselor and trainer and has provided training in family planning education and counseling for over 25 years. She is dedicated to enhancing counselors’ confidence and skill in providing client-centered education and counseling.

Fees: All fees are per person. Title X-funded agencies: $45; Private/Other funding: $70. CE units are an additional $30. A $10 late fee will be assessed for each registration received after the deadline. Fees can be refunded if cancellation is received 5 working days prior to the session.

Registration and fees may be sent separately. Confirmations will be mailed two weeks prior to the workshop and will include specific location, directions and other details. Participants are responsible for their own meals, travel and lodging.

Deadline: Registrations must be received by Friday, January 18, 2008 .

CE Units: Center for Health Training (#PA-23/Mar/09) is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Washington State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
