Learning Objectives

Part 1: For Administrators

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify quality of care considerations for clinicians to address when implementing an Opt-out HIV testing program in the healthcare practice setting, with special attention to the family planning clinic setting.
  • Describe ethical concerns as they relate to Opt out HIV testing practices in various healthcare settings.
  • Compare methods to assess system readiness to adopt change related to HIV testing in selected healthcare settings.
  • Employ system readiness tools to implement an ED HIV screening program grounded in practice based evidence.
Part 2: Clinicians

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Review the 2006 CDC Recommendations for HIV Screening
  • Choose the appropriate HIV test based on the patient’s clinical situation
  • Discuss two benefits of conducting rapid HIV testing in a primary care setting.
  • Describe one strategy used in a healthcare setting to address barriers to implementing testing.
