About the Audio Conference
The sexual history is a starting place for interventions which help clients prevent unintended pregnancy and STIs, yet it is often overlooked. This audio conference will provide information that enables family planning staff to identify clients over 25 that should be screened for STIs, as well as who not to test for chlamydia, gonorrhea and HIV. Recent research findings that suggest new issues to address in the sexual history will also be discussed. (Listeners may view handouts using the link in the Handouts box to the right.)

Clinicians, nurses, medical assistants and other clinic staff that conduct sexual histories and risk assessments with family planning clients.

About the Video
The demonstration videos present four dramatizations of sexual history-taking interviews, illustrating situations in which staff assesses whether or not testing for chlamydia, gonorrhea and HIV should be done. You will meet:
- Alison, a 16-year-old adolescent client
- Anna, a 30-year-old woman with a long-time partner
- Nicole, a 29-year-old woman coming for her annual exam
- Marco, a 27-year-old new client
Each scenario is analyzed by experts from the field to give concrete examples of "do’s and don’ts". Recommendations for testing are provided at the end of each scenario.
Audience
Clinicians, nurses, medical assistants and any reproductive health care staff who interview clients to obtain a sexual history.
