About This Event

A three-hour interactive seminar designed for clinicians who work in primary care, OB/GYN, and Labor & Delivery settings. This program seeks to improve prevention of perinatal HIV transmission by examining testing, test result disclosure, the process of self-disclosure, treatment, and resources for pregnant women and HIV-exposed infants.

Attendance is open to all service providers, however priority registration is given to clinicians. Space is limited! All registrations will be confirmed by e-mail.

Objectives

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe why and when to adminster HIV tests during prenatal care in labor and delivery.
  • Demonstrate disclosure of a preliminary positive HIV test result and a confirmed positive test result.
  • Explain the principles and rationale for design of antiretroviral regimens used during pregnancy to prevent HIV transmission.
  • Identify strategies to use with HIV+ patients during labor & delivery when family members are unware of her status.
  • Discuss the principles & process of disclosure with HIV+ patients.
  • Identify resources for obtaining information and consultation about care of HIV+ women and HIV exposed infants.

Continuing Education

Center for Health Training designates this educational activity for a maximum 3.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This credit may also be applied to the CMA Certification in Continuing Medical Education. CHT is accredited by Institute for Medical Quality/California Medical Association for issuing AMA/PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ for physicians. CHT takes responsibility for the content, quality and scientific integrity of this CME activity.

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 02604, for 3.6 contact hours. To receive credit, nurses must attend the entire course and present their license number at the workshop.

Course meets the qualifications for 3 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Provider #PCE-1400.
