Family Planning Basics

Phoenix, AZ

February 17-18, 2010

9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Note: Participants must attend both days of the training. Certificates of competence are available upon completion of written and oral exams.

In This Training

The Family Planning Basics course is designed for staff new to family planning, or for those who would like a refresher of the basics. As a result of this training, participants will be able to conduct a basic family planning client-centered counseling session that incorporates:

  • The philosophy of family planning counseling
  • Federal Title X requirements
  • Confidentiality and informed consent
  • Reproductive anatomy and physiology
  • Sexuality
  • Contraceptive methods and decision-making
  • Sexually transmitted diseases
  • Counseling skills

Who Should Attend

Medical assistants, counselors, educators, and nurses new to family planning.

Trainers

Daniela E. Torres has a long history of teaching and training on various sexual and reproductive health topics. She is currently the Director of HIV Programs & Public Policy for the Alameda County Public Health Department and is a training consultant on sexual and reproductive health for various agencies.

Renée Marshall, M.Ed. is a Training Manager for CHT with expertise in sexual health education. She has extensive experience in providing HIV, STI, and pregnancy prevention education within diverse communities.

Confirmation

Confirmations will be sent two weeks prior to the workshop and will include specific location, directions and other details. Participants are responsible for their own meals, travel and lodging. For more information regarding registration, call CHT at 510.835.3700.

Fees

All fees are per person.

  • Title X-funded agencies: $100;
  • Private/Other funding: $175.
  • CE units are an additional $60.

A $10 late fee will be assessed for each registration received after the deadline of January 27, 2010. Fees can be refunded if cancellation is received five working days prior to the season.

Note: Do not hesitate to register now; registration and fees may be sent separately.

Continuing Education

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 02604, for 14.4 contact hours. To receive credit, nurses must attend the entire course and present their license number at the workshop. All other applicants will receive certificates of participation.
