About This Webinar
This webinar event will provide administrative and clinical staff in a variety of clinical settings an update on opt-out HIV testing. In the first 60-minute session, Ruth Solomon-Buzi, LCSW, PhD and Glenn Raup, PhD, RN, NE-BC will offer their own lessons learned from incorporating opt-out testing in family planning and emergency department settings, respectively. In the second 60-minute session, Ronald Wilcox, MD, FAAP will discuss current CDC screening criteria, tests used, and methods to break down barriers to routine testing.
Purpose
The goal of this FREE 2-part webinar is to share the experiences and insights gained by administrators and clinicians as they implement routine HIV testing in various healthcare settings. Join us for one or both sessions.

Objectives
Administrators
By the end of this event, participants will be able to:
- Identify quality of care considerations for clinicians to address when implementing an opt-out HIV testing program in the healthcare practice setting, with special attention to the family planning clinic setting.
- Describe ethical concerns as they relate to opt-out HIV testing practices in various healthcare settings.
- Compare methods to assess system readiness to adopt change related to HIV testing in selected healthcare settings.
- Employ system readiness tools to implement an ED HIV screening program grounded in evidence based practice.
Clinicians
By the end of this event, participants will be able to:
- Review the 2006 CDC recommendations for HIV screening.
- Choose the appropriate HIV test based on the patient’s clinical situation.
- Discuss two benefits of conducting rapid HIV testing in a primary care setting.
- Describe one strategy used in a healthcare setting to address barriers to implementing testing.

Center for Health Training is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Washington State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Upon successful completion of each session of this educational activity 1 contact hour will be awarded, for a maximum total of 2 contact hours for both sessions.
Successful completion of this continuing nursing education activity includes the following:
- Be registered for this activity
- Complete the activity sign in form
- Be present no later than five (5) minutes after starting time
- Remain until the scheduled ending time, and
- Complete and submit the evaluation form(s) before at the conclusion pf the program.
